Expanding audience, off-site program, late-night opening, day dedicated to professionals, this 10th Luxembourg Art Week edition is ready to offer a very festive and challenging event. Alex Reding, founding director of the fair, is sharing us his vision and commitment.
The Luxembourg context :
The question of the size of the fair is relevant regarding Luxembourg as a European capital gathering 120 000 people. In comparison in France the towns of Strasbourg and Dijon are much bigger, as in Germany with Frankfurt.
Also 63 % of people working in Luxembourg are from abroad, great companies such as banks have their headquarters here. A highly international profile public. This economic reality is very important for us. It’s an important part of our mission to increase our audience.
Therefore the challenge was to build a mix in such a small area, local and international art and spectrum. It’s complicated but you have to chose the right stratregy : an inclusive way of bringing Luxembourg artists, collectors, institutions, public, amateurs participating to this dynamic. Hospitality is the other key word. For those who attended the diner yesterday, you could feel the special atmosphere between people feeling happy and proud to be here, to share this very special moment.
This dynamic is spead all over the city and the country now. Institutions such as Konschthal Esch and Mudam participate to this dynamic.
Cultural program and increasing synergies :
We make special efforts on this anniversary edition through special highlights and off-site programs in town : the Sculpture and Capsule itineraries. From the station to Boulevard Royal the Sculpture Walk is gathering 10 monumental works. The selection was done at the same moment the galleries appliance in order to give the galleries the opportunities to show large size sculpture. We are specially proud of Stefan Rinck’s proposal (Valerius gallery), Marion Verboom by Lelong galerie, Kendel Geers by myself, Fabien Mérelle by Lara Sedbon, Laura Pasquino by Grège Gallery. Other idea to bring more art to the city is Capsule, by investing empty shops and spaces by our curatorial choices with 8 special projects such as Lea de Cacqueray (France). The cultural presence of LAW is bigger and partners such as the Grand Duchy, the City of Luxembourg and the Ministry of Culture are supporting us to create a cultural event of international size.

Hospitality and proximity during the whole week !
Our partners and sponsors make special events for their clients. Corporate lounges within the fair will be invested by them on Friday night, saturday all day and sunday morning. This is a guarantee for us and our galleries to have new visitors, to meet new people which is the challenge for each fair organizer. This energy and enthusiam bring new collectors to the galleries. This is our responsibility. A large number of guided tours are organized by our sponsors dedicated to people who are sometimes in contact with art for the first time.

Take Of section
It’s dedicated to galleries with 5 years experiences and artists under the age of 35. The selection is made by a Jury. Our partner is the Minister of Culture which take in charge half of the price. It’s a special opportunity for young galleries and artists, collectives and associated projects to take an active part for the first time to the market. It’s a great chance for them !
Main section : the secondary market
In the main section a large part of the galleries are active in the secondary market. It’s a choice to offer more established artists to the public who has the sensibility for historical artists. In such a small city you must cope to every single taste. We intend to bring good quality for a larger audience.
How the geographical spectrum has evolved these years ?
At the beginning it was mostly Luxembourg and neighbors: Paris and Brussels. Since 10 years we have more and more international venues such as Spain, South America, Vienna.
Your proposal :
Regarding Nosbaum Reding, we are offering a large selection of our artists, both from Luxembourg and international. A new comer is Stefaan de Crock from Brugge. He had a solo show in Brussels during last summer. Our “usual aspects” are : Tony Cragg, Peter Zimmermmann, Assan Smati, Damien Deroubaix, Melanie Loureiro. A good balance.
